My late father needed a blood transfusion after being diagnosed with some health issues. It made me realise that there are people out there like him who need blood to save their lives. Finding time to donate regularly is a challenge for me, and takes commitment. I started out as a whole blood donor, and switched to apheresis donation when I realised that my blood type was suited for platelets and plasma donation. One week before donation, I will cut down on caffeine and increase my iron intake by eating food such as green leafy vegetables, legumes and beans.
You have nothing to lose by donating blood regularly, and at the same time, you are saving three lives with every blood donation you make.
