At 17, I wanted to donate blood at my school’s donation drive but I needed parental consent at that time. I told my parents I wanted to try donating blood because I could save three lives with just one donation. Once I turned 18 and no longer needed consent, I started donating blood regularly. My parents didn’t even realise that I am a regular donor until I was in my twenties. Currently, I donate about eight times a year as I do apheresis donation.
I feel that there should be more blood donors in Singapore and one should start blood donation at a young age. One bag of blood can save three lives, so with four donations in a year, you can save up to 12 lives!
